The Daily Bruin traveled to Northern California to document its flourishing cannabis industry, which has produced a majority of the nation’s cannabis for several years. In part one, the reporting team investigates how marijuana has affected the UCLA community and highlight students’ experiences with the plant.

In part two, the Daily Bruin documents the joint venture into cannabis that a pair of brothers have built from the ground up. The reporting team also investigates how neighboring Oregon’s head start in legalizing marijuana shaped its marijuana industry, which may represent California’s future with Proposition 64.

Recreational marijuana has been recently legalized, but patients have been using medical marijuana in California for over two decades to treat a variety of conditions, including nausea, pain and seizures.
In part three, the team speaks to physicians and parents familiar with using medical marijuana as treatment for illness and investigates the potential for research into the plant, despite federal policy barriers.
